CABLE CONNECTION REFERENCE GUIDE

(Please reference this guide with our Cable Chart shown on this page.)

Barcode Scanners most commonly connect to computers using PS2(keyboard wedge) cables or USB cables. Any of the options below will work This will depend on what ports you have available on your computer.
  1. PS2 cables use Y-connectors called wedges that make them function as an extension of the keyboard. If your computer has a keyboard PS2 port, than this option is available to you.
  2. USB cables are now the most common cables used as new computers today have 2 or more USB ports available.
  3. Serial cables are used but are not as commonly used today unless PS2 or USB ports are unavailable.

Cable ChartCard Readers are most commonly connected by USB or PS2 (Keyboard wedge) connections. PS2 cables use Y-connectors called wedges that make them function as an extension of the keyboard. If your computer has a keyboard PS2 port, than this option is available to you.

Cash Drawers with most cash drawers, the signal to open the drawer comes from the receipt printer. When buying a cash drawer if you have or are planning to use a receipt printer you will need to buy a 'printer driven' cash drawer.

If you buy a printer driven cash drawer from us, please note the printer's manufacturer name (ex:Epson) on our "Shipping Instruction" page upon Check-Out, & we will send the appropriate cable to you for free.

If you are not connecting a cash drawer to a receipt printer you can choose a manual cash drawer. The manual cash drawer has a button that you press to open the drawer. Also you can connect a cash drawer to the computer using a serial or USB connection if you need the drawer to open automatically.

Label Printers can be connected by using USB; parallel or serial ports. Parallel and serial ports are still most commonly used today for label printers.

Mobile Computers are most commonly connected to computers by serial or USB connections.

Pole Displays are most commonly connected using serial ports. If you do not have a serial port available, contact your POS software company to see if USB ports will be supported.

Receipt printers typically connect to a computer using parallel or serial connections. Parallel is most preferred by today's POS software. Serial is also a common way to connect to a computer. USB can be used but is not recommended for most POS software. If you do not have an available parallel or serial port, please contact your POS software company to see if USB receipt printers will be supported.

Touch Screens can be connected by either serial or USB connections.
